08.07.2015 Q&A

 Hello Warriors,

Daigensui, is available to answer any questions you may have about the new Japanese heavies, post them in the comment section bellow and I will pick some to be answered.  :)

Storm is now asking players what they consider more important - gameplay or historical realism? There is a tendency of RU players to request less realism and more gameplay. Players request "removal of selective historicism" ("historical values only used when it suits WG"), Storm answers that if historical data is available, historicity is used. If the data is missing, WG does whatever they want.

- Wargaming is now able to produce more than 13-15 HD models a patch;
- Patch 0.9.10 will likely bring as many HD models as patch 0.9.9;
- For now Storm cannot confirm the complete content of 0.9.10;
- The switch of render from square to circle will be finished soon;
- Q: "M6A2E1 with finalized T29 turret will appear in the game?" A: "Why would it?";
- Action X will not get HESH gold shells because "they are considered one of the weakspots of the current FV4202";
- The improved 53 km/h of Action X is historical, this speed was achieved during tests in South Africa (Olifant suspension);
- The T-62A turret actually has the armor schematics of regular T-62 turret, the T-62A turret itself was different and possibly less armored;
- It's actually possible for Action X to have a better armored turret than it is now based on some other data, WG is waiting for test results first however;
- Regarding possible buff of E-100 in connection with the Japanese heavies: "First we will have a look at how the Japanese are doing";
- Rebalanced Highway was removed from testing: "We'll think about what should be done with it."
- TXAA is blurring wheels, tracks and gun barrels too much, developers know about it. It will be introduced anyway but in the future this will be hopefully fixed.
- The fact the ingame FV4005 doesnt have autoloader is historically correct;
- VK4502B is unhistorical and Storm admits it;
- Storm doesn't consider War Thunder very realistic either: "Many things there are simplified as well."
- Storm doesn't like the "hitting weakspots such as cupolas does reduced damage" solution: "You shoot a tank with a 1000 damage gun at 500 meters, you do only 400 damage. Does that seem right to you?"
- The T110E3 weakspot under cupola won't be fixed, it's intentional;
- Improving the role of armor too much? "To have impenetrable tanks actually sucks as well. At first we will deal with general issues of armor and shells and then we will have a look at specific vehicles";
- Developers are discussing what to do with gold ammunition.

Hello Warriors,

apparently the "cucaracha" E-25 is being sold via G2A shop, unfortunately its only for RU accounts: https://www.g2a.com/WGL-sale

If you are a RU player or you are crazy enough like me to have a tertiary account on that server this will be one of the few premium tanks I recommend to get.

Armored Warfare: Developer Digest #2

 Hello Warriors,

Armored Warfare just posted its second Developer Digest, a summary of information answered in the forums by the devs:

 Richard Taylor (chief Armored Warfare developer):

 Whether BMPT should be an AFV:
It is our intention to have the occasional convention-defying vehicle show up among the various classes. We'll keep an eye on how they do balance-wise since the only thing that is determined purely by class are the class-specific mechanics available to the vehicle.

About dedicated scouts above tier 6:
While there are no dedicated scout vehicles past Tier 6 yet, there will be. Unfortunately, that line of vehicles is not going to get extended during CBT. There are a couple really fun vehicles we have in store for filling out the rest of that line but they'll come in after launch.

On the appearance of platoons of wildly different tier vehicles (“troll platoons”):
It is our intent to prevent platoons with a wide tier range from entering the queue. In EA3, I believe that range is 3 Tiers (so a Tier 1 can queue with a Tier 4, a Tier 4 can queue with a 7, etc.). In EA4, that range will be reduced to 2 Tiers (so a Tier 1 can queue with a Tier 3, a Tier 4 can queue with a Tier 6). Our intent is to allow platoons with a limited range but to block outright obvious trolling platoons that bring a bottom tier vehicle into a high tier match. We'll continue to keep an eye on how things are playing out with the limited tier range.

Andrew Rowe (Armored Warfare systems designer):

On why Centauro 155 is a tank destroyer in Armored Warfare:
Regarding the concerns about the Centauro 155/39LW, we did test it out as a SPG internally pretty extensively. It just wasn't very fun to play that way - the constant adjustments necessary to be able to effectively hit anything were very frustrating. We might consider some wheeled SPGs in the future, but the combination of being both wheeled and having extremely limited turret traverse made it almost impossible to play effectively. Rather than cut it in the game, we found that it makes an enjoyable tank destroyer. We do consider realism very important, but in this case we had to make a difficult call.

Regarding the overall Early Access 3 changes:
I just wanted to let you all know that these changes don't represent anywhere near everything we've been working on in terms of vehicle balance. These changes are things we worked on weeks ago, after which the build needed to go through extensive testing and stabilization to make sure it could be properly deployed to the public. We've been carefully gathering feedback and data from the playtests and we're definitely making more incremental changes to individual vehicles. To give you a general idea, we've already implemented buffs to the BMP-1, Chieftain, and Leopard 2AV internally that are being tested right now. We're also looking closely at some vehicles that might be too strong at the moment (such as the M60A3 and the Stingrays).

In terms of the penetration changes, these came from parsing data from our armor designers about MBT armor thicknesses with angling and composition taken into account at each tier of play. The intent behind the changes is to improve MBT armor by making them more reliably able to deflect shells with their strongest armor areas. There will still be weaknesses (e.g. the lower glacis for the T-series, etc.), but we were finding that it was too easy for MBTs to penetrate other MBTs in areas that were supposed to be their strongest armor locations (e.g. the front of the M60's turret). This also helped to correct problems where some powerful autocannons were able to destroy MBTs extremely quickly before. For example, prior to this change, a BMD-2 was able to reliably penetrate the side armor on a T-72 and kill it in less than a single clip of ammunition. With this change, the BMD-2 can still kill a T-72 very quickly if it finds a weak spot or targets the rear armor, but the stock rounds will not reliably penetrate the T-72's side hull armor with every shot. In our internal playtests, these changes have helped make MBTs feel significantly more resilient by making their armor more reliable. We're continuing to monitor these changes closely and making more individual balance changes as needed.

Regarding the under performing Leopard 2AV and the Chieftain:
We have buffs coming for the Leopard 2AV that are being tested internally right now. Chieftain penetration and damage are both going up in an upcoming patch. We're hoping to roll it out as soon as possible.

Regarding the low PvE mode rewards:
PvE objectives are currently giving much lower rewards than intended. We're looking into fixing that, as well as tuning several other values for PvE rewards. More info soon(ish).
